Matthew 7:12

2020

20×30 Acrylic On Panel

Available

Are the elements of this image compatible? Is there a contradiction here? How does it make you feel before you even think about it?

The strong Christian base supporting President Trump has been of interest to me. In this painting his direct quote is followed with a question mark indicating that, while the image may initially be offensive, it is intended to ask an important question.

The flat background color and font style were chosen as a reference to the now famous MAGA hats, the imperfectly hand painted words mimicking embroidery on cloth.

The title, “Matthew 7:12”, was chosen because it is what is widely knows as the Golden Rule. In the Sermon On The Mount Jesus says “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Would you support someone doing this to you? To your daughter? What will you choose?
